Somewhere I’ve been to

30 days of me : day 5 : a picture of somewhere you’ve been to

I have a dream.  A dream of living in a little cabin on a wild, windswept north Pacific coast beach.  On an island.  Haida Gwaii.  Or Vancouver Island.  Or even one of the hundreds of tiny islands scattered along the coast.   A cozy little cabin with a wood stove.  And windows that look out over the wild ocean.

Where I can wander the beach every day, looking for the jetsam and flotsam that has drifted in from places far, far away.  Where the wind whips through my hair, and the rain drops splash on my face, and I can deeply inhale the intoxicating scent of sea salt, and hear the haunting calls of eagles and ravens and seagulls.  Where I can gaze out over the cold rolling waves to the far horizon and find myself drawn into the mystery of the far beyond; where on rare clear nights the stars twinkle and call me outward and upward.

“I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely seas and the sky” – and all I ask is a snug little cabin, with wide windows to gaze at them by!

I had the great privilege of staying in a cabin (well, actually 2 cabins, side by side) in the middle of winter on the east coast of Haida Gwaii, for 2 weeks.  And I have hankered for “my cabin” ever since.  Here are some pictures from that time.  Beautiful, eh?  :-)

And here we sit hemmed in by four walls. Reading your post makes me yearn for the freedom to roam the hills. Thanks Norma…
